Hong Kong, a city renowned for its vibrant cultural tapestry, has long been a haven for Filipinos seeking to hone their craft and make a name for themselves. From the revolutionary figures of the 19th century, such as Dr. Jose Rizal, Emilio Aguinaldo, and Gregorio del Pilar, who sought refuge in Hong Kong to establish the newly independent Philippine government, to the modern-day professionals, including investment bankers, teachers, accountants, architects, graphic designers, homemakers, students, and foreign domestic helpers, Filipinos have consistently flocked to the city in pursuit of a better life.
Among these individuals are talented Filipino artists who have made Hong Kong their home for over a decade, achieving success in their respective fields. Galleria Camaya is proud to showcase the outstanding works of these artists, a testament to their dedication and perseverance in the face of busy and hectic lives.
The exhibition also highlights the remarkable works of young Filipino artists born and educated in Hong Kong, who remain steadfast in their Filipino heritage.
Of particular note is the Guhit Kulay group, comprising over thirty foreign domestic helpers who, despite their demanding schedules, have found time to create stunning works of art. Formed in 2017, Guhit Kulay began as an art class with the Pintura Circle, a charity dedicated to promoting Philippine art in Hong Kong. This initiative allowed the talented artists to connect with one another and find the courage to regularly paint together. Since then, the group has proudly displayed their works in various exhibits across Hong Kong, with some members even winning awards in competitions.
This exhibition is a testament to the power of art to bring people together and transcend cultural boundaries. It is a celebration of the Filipino spirit, which has long been a driving force in shaping the landscape of cultural diversity and harmony in Hong Kong.
The show is organized by Galleria Camaya in cooperation with the Philippine Association of Hong Kong (PAHK). GMA Pinoy TV, GMA Life TV and GMA News TV are proud media partners of the exhibition.
